So let me first start off my introducing myself,
not in the "hello,how do you do way? "but in the one that most matters as far as this article is concerned.
In today world everyone wants to believe themselves to be music geniuses,or at the very least someone whose music tastes are beyond perfection,hence a complete revolutionising of the word "hater",and a legion of music supremacists persist and literally govern the internet.
Id love to say I was different but the truth is I'm probably as bad,and I believe the pinnacle of music to be rock everything from imagine dragons to queen ,fall out boy to metallica and NO I do not like justin beiber or 1D,the very names give me a headache ,but without too much diversion from what is bound to be a debatable  topic, lets get into the matter at hand

5 Seconds Of summer: The Rock Band

to start matters off lets first classify their music into a genre,and for those screaming "pop",yes you are right ,but lets be a little more specific,is it YouTube pop?,punk pop?or the trashy synthesised unevocative and may i say "musically challenged "pop?

after viewing this video it has become apparent(at least to me) that 5SOS is definitely rock,pop rock ,but yes, squealing electric guitars and crunchy catchy riffs described by any other word would be just wrong.

So its clear,these lads from down under definitely know how to play real instruments,and do not shy away from featuring them in studio recordings,which is a refreshing surprise and a welcome one.

5 Seconds Of summer: The next one direction?(*Shudders*)

i will answer this question ,but  first let me ask one of my own,what does 1D mean to you?

is it the hordes of pre-teens listening to them? ,

the lines outside their venues?'

is it how they are as people?

or could it  maybe be about the music

for a b and c yes they are the new 1D ,but if by chance you have realized that musicians make music then no,their sound is original,they grew up listening to blink 182,and they might look like one direction but they remind one more of the older boy bands,backstreet boys,west life? remember them? the ones that had great melodies,soothing instruments ,and where the singers actually knew what the fuck he was doing

For those still not convinced ,yes they are a "boyband"but if you go around with the "all boy bands suck because they are boybands"attitude  them you would also be including 4 old men who did infact start off as a boyband, before becoming the phenomenon that we revere and with fond memories recollect as the beatles,Icons of a generation .

so i the end,i will nto ask you to "please listen to them guys theyre awesome"but i will ask you to give them a fair chance,opening fotr one direction may not be the best way to gain respect bu as a musician one would do anything and everything to be heard,we live in a world of 7 billion people..the odds are always against us.

and why did i post this article?Not because i think theyre the next micheal jackson(anyonewho  dares to be stupid enough to make that comparision deserves a slap)

but in a world where pop has litrerall;y gone to the dgs,they might just be what we need

so lets sum it up,

Hell No!!

but a band that deserves a listen,and may well be the only way to bring back "good" pop to mainstream audiences 

take a look at another group of guys that started out as a "boyband" and have evolved into one of the top notch acts in the rock industry,(my personal favourite) Fall Out Boy
